**Credit Available for Sample Doors & Drawer Boxes

Your first sample door or drawer box comes with a credit on the material cost of the item that can be applied to a full-sized project. Credit does not apply to finishing or shipping charges on sample items. Each additional sample door or drawer box credit can be applied to a project for every additional $1,000 spent. No more than three sample doors may be ordered online. If you have need for more than three sample doors, are a professional contractor, interior designer, architect, or similar, or if there are any other special circumstances please speak with our sales team. There are no credits associated with sample blocks.

 

Shipping, Lead Time, and Cancellations

  • All sample doors and drawer boxes are made from scratch when you place your order except for the engineered doors. Sample doors are not refundable after they've been built and shipped. If you wish to cancel your sample order and receive a full refund, you must contact us either by phone or email and inform us of your wish to cancel within 2 business days of placing your order. Emails should be sent to info@scherrs.com or if you wish to reach us by phone, please call (701) 839-3384. 
  • Please allow one week lead time on unfinished sample doors and two weeks lead time on painted or finished sample doors & drawer boxes
  • Allow 3-5 business days shipping within the continental US
  • If expedited shipping/production is needed, please call our office with your order instead (701) 839-3384
  • These lead times are "safe" estimates on our part. In reality doors typically ship out faster than the times stated.

Order a sample of any material you're considering for your project

If you need something physical to hold in your hands to help make your next decision but don't want to purchase a full-sized sample door, you can purchase a sample block of material instead.

A sample block is excellent if...

  • You want to experiment with stains, paints, or other finishes
  • You want to feel or test the weight, hardness, quality, or feel of the wood/material
  • You want to compare the wood species or finish in-person next to other design elements or materials in your project

Sample Blocks are 5" x 5" x 3/4"

If you desire for a sample block to have some more specific characteristics, please provide a description in the "Special Notes" field or give us a call and perhaps we can accommodate your request.

#125 Slab Doors

We do not offer #125 Slab Doors with an outside profile. #125 doors are our modern flat panel slab doors. Made from high quality ply material, designed to keep stable longer than solid wood. #125 doors have real wood veneer of the species you choose, 1.5mm real wood edge-banding around the edges to match the wood of the panel.

Wood Species selection is a bit different as we are using sheet material and not hardwood for #125 Slab Doors. Most species of wood are available, there are no rustic variations, Cypress, or Clear White Pine. All woods are 'Select' grade (no paint grade.) Quarter and Rift-Sawn woods are available for red and white oak.

If you are considering painting a #125 door, we recommend ordering a #625 MDF door. If you'd rather stick with a ply-wood slab door, we recommend birch or maple for painting.

Premium grade MDF (medium density fiberboard) doors are made from a single piece of MDF and precision tooled with our CNC router.

#250 & #255 Solid Wood Slab Doors

#250 & #255 Solid wood slab sample doors are only available by calling and talking to a sales rep first. Solid wood doors can be problematic in certain situations and we want to make sure that a person is fully aware of what they're ordering before spending any money on them.

Edge-Glued solid wood and profiled around the edges. Stripe on #255 Door is made from solid wood, as part of the gluing pattern of the wood. Solid wood slab doors that don't have a frame have a tendency to cup or bow over time, in order to minimize this effect we attach two battens horizontally near the top and bottom on the back of the door.

Sample Drawer Box

8"wide x 8"deep x 3"high Sample Drawer Box

Material: Solid Wood 5/8" Thick Maple Sides with 1/4" Maple Ply Bottom

  • Dovetail Joinery on all four corners, glued (wood glue) and sanded smooth
  • Bottom is secured within grooves cut into all four sides, diagonal staples visible only from bottom
  • Finished with a clear Acrylic Conversion Varnish, finish is non-yellowing

This sample comes in one size only and in one material only. Actual dovetail drawer boxes can be made in many different sizes and almost any wood species, though soft maple is standard.

Maple is the preferred wood choice for drawer boxes because its bright color reflects light within the drawer, naturally providing some illumination to see within. Maple is very rigid and holds up well to strikes and blunt force.
